On the afternoon of August 28, the Appointment Ceremony for the Italy Representative Office of the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce and Shanghai–Italy Economic and Trade Exchange was successfully held. A representative of DoBe Group was appointed Chief Advisor to the Italy Representative Office of the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce. Yang Dongsheng, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Chairman of the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce, and Lorenzo Riccardi, Chairman of the Board of the EU SME Centre, attended the event and delivered remarks. Vinicio Peluffo, President of the Parliamentary Association “Friends of China” of Italy, addressed the event via video. Mattia Marino, Vice President for East China of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, and Du Ruigang, Deputy General Manager of Bank of China Milan Branch, were invited to deliver keynote presentations. Nearly 40 representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Chinese companies expanding overseas, and professional service organisations attended the event.

Going forward, DoBe Group will draw on its extensive experience in cultural and creative park operations, overseas expansion services for enterprises, and China–Italy industrial cooperation to support the Representative Office in building an efficient two-way channel connecting businesses in Shanghai and Italy. It will provide professional, locally grounded support to help more Chinese companies enter the Italian market and more Italian companies establish a presence in Shanghai.

Yang Dongsheng noted in his remarks that Shanghai plays an important role as a gateway and hub for China–Italy economic and trade cooperation. The two economies are highly complementary in structure and closely aligned across a broad range of industries, offering significant potential for further cooperation. He said that the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce had actively promoted the establishment of the Italy Representative Office with the aim of deepening bilateral economic and trade exchanges, building an efficient cooperation platform, and responding to the practical needs of businesses through concrete initiatives. Looking ahead, the Representative Office will fully leverage its role as a two-way bridge between Shanghai and Italy, facilitating deeper integration in areas including information sharing, resource connectivity and industrial collaboration, and jointly fostering an economic and trade ecosystem that is more open and inclusive, resilient and dynamic, and focused on tangible outcomes.

In a video address, Vinicio Peluffo, President of the Parliamentary Association “Friends of China” of Italy, highlighted Shanghai’s position as one of China’s leading economic and financial centers and an important gateway connecting China with European and global markets, noting its significant role in bilateral relations. He said that the Italy Representative Office of the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce would provide strong support for Shanghai companies seeking to better understand the Italian market and serve as another important link between the business communities of the two sides. Peluffo encouraged both sides to promote high-quality, long-term and productive investment that creates jobs, develops industrial activities, supports innovation and research and development, strengthens local supply chains, and builds stable partnerships. He expressed the hope that the Representative Office would help Chinese and Italian companies achieve shared growth through deeper cooperation.

Lorenzo Riccardi, Chairman of the Board of the EU SME Centre, said that the establishment of the Italy Representative Office represented a concrete commitment to deepening economic dialogue between China and Italy. He noted that approximately 60% of Italian investment in China is concentrated in East China, while Shanghai and its surrounding provinces are home to the largest concentration of Italian companies in the Far East. Riccardi also noted that the EU SME Centre is simultaneously advancing the development of the Enterprise Europe Network in China to support European companies seeking to expand in the Chinese market. He said that this initiative and the establishment of the Representative Office are highly complementary and will contribute positively to stronger China–EU economic and trade relations.

Mattia Marino, Vice President for East China of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, delivered a keynote presentation entitled “Italy: Your Gateway to Europe — The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce by Your Side.” He expressed his expectation that the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce and the Italy Representative Office would work closely together on institutional visits, bilateral business matchmaking, business delegations and other initiatives, creating synergies through a model of “two institutions, one platform.” Through such collaboration, the two organisations aim to advance China–Italy economic and trade cooperation from individual projects towards sustainable, long-term and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Joining the event via video link, Du Ruigang, Deputy General Manager of Bank of China Milan Branch, delivered a presentation on “Chinese Enterprises Investing in Italy: Current Landscape, Challenges and Solutions.” He said that Bank of China Milan Branch would continue to serve as a financial bridge for China–Italy economic and trade cooperation, supporting Chinese enterprises in four key areas: overseas investment, business operations, global expansion and two-way investment. Through these efforts, the branch will help more Chinese companies enter the Italian market, establish a strong local presence and expand further into Europe.

Vice President of DoBe Group gave a detailed introduction to DoBe Group’s business development in Italy and the broader European market in recent years. She highlighted in particular the Sino-Italian Design Exchange Center established by DoBe Group in Florence and shared the Group’s practical experience in helping Chinese companies expand overseas while facilitating the entry of international companies into the Chinese market. She said that DoBe Group would fully integrate its overseas project platforms, resources and industrial service network with the Representative Office to create complementary strengths combining a physical business platform and institutional service platform. Focusing on the full range of needs of companies expanding overseas—including international market consulting, landing and incubation services, policy coordination and business delegations—DoBe Group will provide practical and comprehensive services for enterprises in both Shanghai and Italy.

The newly appointed Chief Representative also introduced the work plan for the Italy Representative Office. Representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, together with representatives from companies expanding overseas, including Geely Auto Group, Shanghai Trendzone Holdings Group, Italian Exhibition Group, Lide Group, Lujie Kunchi Group and Shanghai Hehui Safety Products Co., Ltd., as well as professional service organisations including TC GROUP, PwC and ALTIOS, exchanged views on the development of the Representative Office and on opportunities for strengthening Shanghai–Italy economic and trade cooperation.
